But hooking it up to 2 apple cinemas (24") is ok, right?

Yes. As they both function as MDP ports as well as Thunderbolt ports.

This, if it and Ivy Bridge, lower SSD prices/larger capacities come to fruition solidify my decision to stay with my 2010 and wait for the 2012 refresh.

well, im a cingular customer. so no problem there. but im hoping that Apple has a model with is a smartphone/pda ie to replace my Treo 650.

unless they have a smart model with a large hard drive, say 60 or 80 gb, with that, i don't think ill buy one right away.

This link is for the Mac/iPod offer that was going on for the back to school season. On the last page under terms and conditions, it lists the iPods that qualify for the rebate and how much each are worth. Then in a second column there is a different price which goes into effect on 9/12/06. Has the rebate always been printed like this....If anyone has this form printed out prior today, check and see if it is like this one.

When the day comes that holographic screens make it to the market...maybe the green lust will be satiated and all will be well..unless the projector for holograms is a candy-coated ball of lead, powered by the liver of an infant.

well what else CLOULD it be?

Just noticed they give an option for both Serial ATA and SSD together (both internal...I think). That would be a great option if it weren't +$600

Because part of releasing a new, backwards approaching, IGP in the 13" MBP required saving face for both its MacBook "PRO" name and Intel's IGP capabilities itself.

If the resolution is upgraded to 1440x900, the IGP is going to perform worse in comparison to the prior 13" MBP...

Hum... that's the point, you wouldn't even notice that in regular desktop usage, only in gaming and then only if you usually game on the internal display.

The framebuffer resolutions required for desktop usage have been pushed by GPUs much less than the SB graphics. Again, my Matrox G200 could power a 1600x1200 monitor with ease with about 1% of the processing power of a 9400M, much less that of the 320M or the Intel 3000HD.

These GPUs can power 30" monitors at 2560x1600 and their internal display on the laptops without breaking a sweat, at the same time. You wouldn't notice a degradation in performance. I'm writing this right now with my MBA connected to a 2048x1156 monitor and it's also powering its own 1440x900 display where iTunes is displayed. I'm not seeing this "degradation" you speak of.

This, again, only applies to 3D gaming. We don't know why the MBP didn't get the resolution upgrade and I can garantee you it has nothing to do with the GPU.

Eh. Not that big of a deal as far as I'm concerned. It's a tracking file on my phone copied to my computer. I have plenty more to worry about like bank or CC info then my exact location at a given moment.

Hey everybody, I'm at work in Cranberry, PA right now!

Personally I'm a huge fan of daisy chaining. Less devices, less cables, less clutter. You just attach each device to the next.

What is it you have an aversion to?

What if I need to pull a drive somewhere in the chain but I'm still accessing a device farther along the chain? Daisy chaining is a *massive* pain for anyone who deals with external devices that aren't permanently, or at least semi-permanently, hooked up to a single machine!

    No, not at all.

An affinity mask sets the set of CPUs that can be scheduled. A job won't be run on another CPU, even if the assigned CPUs are at 100% and other idle CPUs are available.

And that, by the way, is why setting affinity is usually a bad idea. Let the system dynamically schedule across all available resources -- or you might have some CPUs very busy, and others idle.

Win2k3 also has "soft" affinity masks, which define a preferred set of CPUs. If all of the preferred CPUs are busy, and other CPUs are idle, then soft affinity allows the system to run the jobs on the idle CPUs - even though the idle CPUs aren't in the preferred affinity mask.

But I am pretty sure the newest developer tools can cope with that, considering that multicore chips are a rather new thing in the mainstream market...

Try the Processor Preferences app contained in the Apple CHUD tools, for instance...

As stated earlier in this thread, this is absolutely not true. The MacPros are included in the rebate and they were NOT available when the promotion started. They were added as elgible purchases after release.

Its almost 7:30 EST, and the store is still up. Not a good sign for action today.

Ok well I stand corrected then. Keep in mind.. the store doesn't "open" until 8am EST... So we still have 20 minutes :P

The 2.40 and 2.66 (which would be great for the imacs) use 114 Watts at idle and 158-162 at load ( Here's info on power draw for original G5s (, early 2005 G5s (, and late 2005 G5s ( I fail to see the problem. I'm not being flip - I really fail to see the problem. They fit G5s in to imacs, and those power draw numbers look worse than conroe's, unless I'm missing something. Thanks for the additional research. Still, you're taxing the current 180w power supply. I don't think the Power Mac G5 is a good example either. Are we expecting a redesign for Conroe? Not that I don't WANT Conroe in the iMac. It just seems a bit much.

It's certainly better than an red, glossy 1G nano - hopefully it would have the proper matte, anodised finish of the current nanos rather than the glossy coating ColorWarePC use to do their custom iPods.

    Not too bad though...

that looks pretty good, actually. I'm not sure it's better than the ones they already have, but it's another nice choice.

In iOS, you have to flick and flick, especially if you have many apps.

There's always that little thing called "Spotlight". Home button, flick left, start typing.

    Hardly an impossibility. ;)

Apple and Cingular go way back.

Who says that Apple WONT be a Mobile Virtual Network Operator like Virgin Mobile, Helio, Amp'd, mobile ESPN

    ESPN is Sprint
    Helio is Sprint
    Amp'd is Verizon
Virgin is Sprint in the US, but T Mobile in the UK

I say Apple iPhone IS MVNO

    Aug 23, 04:49 PM
    Ha! Probably crossed their minds.

I highly doubt it. Remember, when Apple gets big, they'll have the group of haters that follow Microsoft claiming monopoly.

IF Apple is really serious about dominating the market, BOGO will easily push their market share up a few points.

But something tells me they don't really care.
